It seems like everyone is talking in social media code these days. And that social media’s reach is everywhere. Should you embrace it, restrict it or block it in your workplace?
We read with great interest “HR Expert Outlines The Top Five Threats Facing Businesses Today” over at Noozhawk, which said that 45 percent of adults are now using social media. (Personally, we think that number is probably higher here in the United States.) The article included the suggestion that managers allow employees to embrace social media and let them use it, so long as company expectations are clear. The focus should be on increasing their engagement in their jobs whenever they are using social media on company time, or in a professional capacity.
So how do you balance the pros and the cons of this medium of expression and information sharing within your company? Drawing up the right social media policy for your business—and making sure it gets followed—is not a task to be taken lightly.
